A few months ago I made a bold decision to leave my job without another one lined up. For most people that know me, this is extremely out of my character. I’ve been a planner my entire life and always lived firmly in the comfort that comes with having a clear next move. However, as I was trying to plan the next step in my career and began applying to new jobs, I felt implored to close one door so that I could be intentional before opening the next one. In the words of my mom, I took an actual leap of faith and trusted that God would guide my landing. So I resigned.
I made a list of what I wanted in this next phase of my career because I believe there is so much truth in writing out your goals, and as a result putting them into the universe. With a very focused mindset and a clear vision for what I wanted, I began researching and leveraging my network to identify opportunities that matched my list.
This week, I’m happy to report, I started a new job that matches my list exactly. To say that I am extremely excited is an understatement.
But I have to say, it almost scared me for a bit guys. I think it’s so easy to say you have faith, but to actually take a risk and then see your goal come to fruition has been a truly eye-opening and affirming moment for me.
Being transparent, I was terrified of being unemployed. Beyond a financial security standpoint, the stigma of not having a 9 to 5 job and all the societal judgments that come with that almost paralyzed me from making a decision.
But at 26 years of age, I’ve reached a point where I am committed to making decisions based solely on my happiness. I trust myself.
I’m sharing this story with you guys for a few reasons.
First, my job search is why I’ve been super inconsistent with my blog over the past few weeks. I have a bad habit of putting on hold other aspects of my life when I’m stressed about one specific thing. My apologies, I have an absolute love for you guys and your support means a ton. I’m in a good spot now so I’m promising new weekly content moving forward.
Second, I hope that my story encourages you to go after the things you want in your life, and this is a theme you’ll see in a lot of my posts. As women, and even more so as women of color, with the state of our current society, it is a requirement that we are bold in asserting what we want and need in our careers, friendships, and relationships. I’m certainly not saying that it will be easy. It will sometimes require taking a risk that will have you awake at night wondering what the hell you just did (bruh…my life a month ago).
However, if you navigate your life with clear intention and an unyielding faith, things will eventually fall to your favor. I promise.
Have a great weekend and check out details on this look below.
All the love,
MB
